Direct download links and premium file hosts solve the same basic problem differently, and each comes with real tradeoffs.
Direct Links – Instant downloads, no ads, no waiting. Great user experience, but bandwidth costs land entirely on you, and there's no built-in monetization.
Premium File Hosts – Built-in monetization (pay-per-download or premium memberships), and bandwidth costs are absorbed by the host. Downside: wait timers, ads, and download limits frustrate free users.

A common middle ground: use direct links for smaller, low-traffic files, and premium hosts for larger files or anything you want to monetize directly.

Which approach do you use, and has it changed as your traffic grew?
