Recording gameplay used to mean a guaranteed FPS hit. Modern hardware and software have mostly solved this if set up correctly. Use hardware encoding (NVENC/AMF) – Offloads encoding to a dedicated chip on your GPU instead of competing with the game for the same resources, dramatically reducing the performance hit. Record to a separate drive – Writing the recording to the same drive the game is running from can cause stutter; a second SSD/HDD avoids that contention. Dual-PC setups – For the most demanding setups, a second PC dedicated entirely to capturing/encoding removes the performance cost from the gaming PC entirely. Match bitrate to your actual needs – Recording at an unnecessarily high bitrate for local storage wastes space and resources without a real quality benefit for most uses. What's your current recording setup, and how much FPS (if any) are you actually losing?
