A question that comes up constantly from people starting to learn backend development: PHP, Node.js, or Python — where should you actually start?
PHP – Still powers a huge share of the web (WordPress alone is massive). Easiest to deploy cheaply, huge hosting support, and the fastest path to actually shipping something on typical shared hosting.
Node.js – Same language as the frontend (JavaScript), which is a real advantage if you're already comfortable with JS. Great for real-time apps and APIs, but requires more DevOps knowledge to host properly.
Python – Extremely readable, dominant in data/AI work, and solid web frameworks (Django, Flask). A great choice if you might branch into data science or automation later, not just web apps.

Honestly, the "best" one is whichever matches what you actually want to build. Building a WordPress-adjacent site? PHP. Building a JS-heavy real-time app? Node. Interested in data/automation too? Python.

What did you start with, and would you pick the same one again?
