There's a lot of "just get a VPS" advice thrown around, but shared hosting is genuinely fine for a lot of small sites. Trying to figure out where the real line is.
Is it purely a traffic/resource number, or more about needing root access for something specific (custom PHP versions, background workers, that kind of thing)? Has anyone upgraded too early and just paid more for headaches, or waited too long and regretted it?
