📊 Every host advertises an uptime guarantee (99.9%, sometimes 99.99%) but very few people actually understand what that number means in practice.
🧮 99.9% uptime still allows for about 8.7 hours of downtime per year. 99.99% brings that down to about 52 minutes per year — the difference between those two numbers is much bigger than it looks.
📜 SLA credits, not guarantees – Most "guarantees" are actually service level agreements that offer account credit if violated, not a technical promise the site will never go down.
🔍 Verify independently – Third-party uptime monitoring tools (not the host's own dashboard) give you the real picture over time.
📅 Check historical data – Some monitoring services publish public uptime history for popular hosts, worth checking before committing.
💬 Has your host ever actually honored an SLA credit after downtime, or is it mostly theoretical?
